Funding programmes

Grant to support a doctoral initiative

The grant is intended to support group-related activities or events that are developed and implemented by the doctoral candidates in the Faculty of Philosophy themselves (such as doctoral conferences focusing on networking and the exchange of methodologies and research results, subject-related symposia, workshops etc.).
These grants are only open to doctoral students who have been officially admitted to the Faculty of Philosophy at Heidelberg University. Additionally, the application must be made by the doctoral students of two separate supervisors.

Application deadlines in 2023: 15.03. and 15.09.

Publication grant

The publication grant is a form of financial support to be used toward the cost of publishing your dissertation (for printing costs and for acquiring reproduction rights such as image rights or in special cases for proofreading). Only doctoral students who have received at least “magna cum laude“ on their dissertation will be considered for a grant. At the time of your application, you should be able to provide a price quotation from the publisher or a finalized contract for the publication of your dissertation.

Application deadlines in 2023: 15.03. and 15.09.

Bridging grant

The purpose of the bridging grant is to fund the swift and efficient completion of your dissertation project. You can apply for a grant to fund the final six months of work on your dissertation up to the submission of the dissertation to the Faculty. The period between submission of the dissertation and the oral examinations cannot be funded.

Application deadlines in 2023: 15.03. and 15.09.
